Vortec's ATEX & ProtEX Enclosure Coolers Acquire IECEx Certification

Cincinnati, OH (February 2024): The ITW Vortec team is thrilled to announce the latest updates made to our ATEX and ProtEX Enclosure Coolers. Starting February 13th, 2024, Vortec's ATEX and ProtEX Enclosure Coolers will officially be IECEx Certified. This means that Vortec's ATEX Enclosure Coolers (models: 7415, 7425, 7435, 7470, 7315, 7325, 7335, 7370 (including all BSP versions)) and ProtEX Enclosure Coolers (models: 8115, 8125, 8135, 8170 (including all BSP versions)) officially meet all IECEx certification standards and can be operated in explosive atmospheres.

To acquire this certification, Vortec went through the IECEx Equipment Proficiency Testing Scheme which includes three stages. First, through the IECEx Test Report (ExTR), Vortec’s ATEX and ProtEX Enclosure Coolers were tested to all relevant requirements for meeting IEC and ISO Standards. The IECEx Quality Assessment Report (QAR) then audited the Vortec plant to confirm its capability of manufacturing products identical to the tested sample. Once the Enclosure Coolers had met all relevant standards, passed the conformity assessment, and been officially verified, Vortec was issued with a highly regarded, and highly valued, Certificate of Conformity.

This new certification expands the locations and industries in which Vortec Enclosure Coolers can be used. It also means that manufacturers are now able to reduce testing and certification costs for their products and reduce their time to market, while still meeting all safety regulations. We asked Vortec Application Engineer, Steve Prows, what this new IECEx Certification means for our international customers.

“The IECEx Certification means that industrial facilities, especially international, can now save a significant amount of time and money on testing and certification costs for their products to operate in explosive atmospheres,” says Prows. “With Vortec’s ProtEX and ATEX Enclosure Coolers being IECEx Certified, customers can have more confidence in the safety of their personnel, the public, and their assets, while still effectively cooling their electrical control panels.”

Cincinnati based, ITW Vortec is proud to be a market leader and innovator of compressed air solutions since 1961. Vortec was the first company to develop the technology for converting the vortex tube phenomenon into practical and effective, industrial cooling solutions. The release of our IECEx Certified ATEX and ProtEx Enclosure Coolers is a continuation of the commitment and passion that Vortec has towards offering innovative compressed air application solutions.
